Breathing (by Andrew Weil, M.D)

I enjoyed the previous audiobook I listened to by Dr. Andrew Weil so much I decided to dive into his audiobook, Breathing: The Master Key to Self Healing. You can read my book review on Healthy Sleep here. In that blog post I also share about my introduction to Dr. Weil’s work.

The audiobook, Breathing, is a short listen, less than two hours, and it’s packed with vital information about the healing qualities of our breath. Dr. Weil explains the Eastern tradition of pranayama and how practicing breathwork can influence our nervous system. Dr. Weil takes listeners through several breathing exercises he practices in his own life. A major benefit to the author narrating the audiobook is that he practices the breathwork along with the reader. Between each breathwork exercise, there is beautiful meditative music to allow the benefits of the practice to settle in before moving on to the next technique. In closure, he explains the breathwork regimen he practices twice daily. His teachings are easy to comprehend and seem like they will be easy to apply to daily life. The exercises don’t seem to take much time to have a positive impact on one’s health.

I look forward to trying these exercises prior to sleep, moments of fatigue, and even during stressful work meetings! Haha I’m interested to try his twice daily routine. Can’t beat a technique that simply involves using my very own breath in a new way!

As a side note, the picture above was taken at Wilson’s Nurseries in Frankfort, Kentucky. My husband and I were shopping their huge conservatory for unique houseplants. The plant pictured captured my heart; it’s appropriately named a pineapple plant.
