The Housemaid (by Freida McFadden)

I am addicted to Freida McFadden’s amazing psychological thrillers. A former coworker/friend and I have been discussing our love for her books for the past few months. My friend is always raving about The Housemaid series, along with the rest of the reading world, so I finally made it a priority to start reading The Housemaid. My friend recently finished the series, and Audible is offering a deal where if I spend three credits, I will get one free credit. Seems like a worthy way to use my credits.

I went into The Housemaid only knowing the rave reviews it has received and the information in the title details. In short, Millie is hired as the housemaid for the Winchester family and is expected to clean, cook, and pick up their daughter from school or extracurricular activities. Nina Winchester is a complete slob and nearly impossible to work for. Their daughter is quite the spoiled brat. Andrew Winchester is rich, handsome, and seemingly unhappy in his marriage.

Just as I suspected. A typical story of the housemaid falling in love with the man of the house. But that’s only the beginning. It doesn’t come close to scratching the surface of how creepy and diabolical this story becomes. One of the characteristics I admire about Freida’s books is that the story is never as it seems. Her ability to take a common theme and turn it into a work of entertainment, that is out of this world creative is astonishing!

I have always wondered how The Housemaid could become a series of books. Well, now I know and I can’t wait to read the second installment!

Narration by Lauryn Allman is excellent!

I’m working my way through all of Freida McFadden’s books. My previous reviews are linked below.
