Those Girls (by Chevy Stevens)

I randomly selected Those Girls by Chevy Stevens from my Overdrive/Libby wishlist where it’s been patiently waiting for ages. I’m glad I finally checked it out.

Three teenage sisters are raised by their father in an abusive, neglectful home. Circumstances finally come to a breaking point and the girls run away, headed for Vancouver. Before they can reach their destination, they encounter some very dangerous young men. At this point, I questioned whether or not I wanted to continue reading as the horrific events seemed to last for a really long time. I didn’t think their suffering was ever going to end. I’m pleased with my decision to stick it out as I got to learn of the sisters’ strength and determination. They continued to endure struggles and made difficult decisions. Just when I thought the girls were managing and learning how to cope with their trauma, their lives gets sucked right back into more horrific events. The ending was really good, in a very sad, but healing kind of way.

I also want to share some pictures of the field I walk my dog, Nikolette, each night. We have been enjoying some beautiful sunsets while I listened to this book. The field is in full bloom of black-eyed Susans and purple ironweed. Absolutely gorgeous!
