Groovy Plants Ranch in Marengo, Oh
My husband and I recently discovered an amazing plant nursery, Groovy Plants Ranch in Marengo, Ohio. We're both plant lovers, and he's become quite the cacti collector and grower. He stumbled upon Groovy Plants Ranch while hanging out on Reddit with his fellow cactus lovers, and we were excited to learn it's located less than 30 minutes north of Columbus. As an Ohio native, I loved adding this fun place to the agenda for our next trip to my home.
It turns out Groovy Plants Ranch is a popular, well-known plant nursery. It's a family-owned business that started in 2009 with succulent cuttings and was established at its current site in 2016. I was impressed by the sheer size of the property — large greenhouses, a massive selection of plants, and adorable buildings set up as specialty shops.
They have a magnificent private collection of succulents and cacti housed in one of the greenhouses. You can look in and admire the collection, but you can't enter. We learned from one of their many friendly employees that a tour can be scheduled in advance, so we'll definitely be organizing that for our next visit.
We had a blast exploring the houseplants, perennials, annuals, herbs, and more. They had some of the most beautiful coneflowers I've ever seen — such gorgeous colors! They've created a fun, immersive atmosphere with '70s-themed decorations and era-appropriate music throughout the property.
We had just as much fun finding their additional features, whether it was a building full of merchandise or a creative display of plants and flowers. They have a Potter's Saloon where you can pot your own plants, a mercantile with rocks, gems, and fossils, and a schoolhouse stocked with seeds, gardening gear, and Groovy Plants Ranch t-shirts, mugs, totes, and more.
Groovy Plants Ranch was everything we hoped for and then some. Between the incredible plant selection, the quirky shops, and that private collection we can't wait to tour, it's already earned a permanent spot on our list of Ohio must-visits. If you're ever within driving distance, do yourself a favor and go — just leave extra room in the car for all the plants you'll inevitably bring home.
