Kim Michele Richardson
I celebrated Independent Bookstore Day at The Kentucky Bookstore in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. The store hosted a signing with Kim Michele Richardson for her new novel, The Mountains We Call Home, the third book in The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek series.
I’ve visited this charming bookstore many times, but this was my first author signing. The event was beautifully organized, and the staff were, as always, warm and helpful. I had pre-ordered my copy and was thrilled to receive some wonderful swag—including a beautiful Troublesome Creek Book Woman pin I didn’t expect.
The store was delightfully busy with Independent Bookstore Day shoppers. While I waited in line, Kim’s husband kindly struck up a conversation with me. Then it was my turn to meet Kim herself. I told her how much I appreciate the authentic Kentucky voice in her writing. She smiled and said she writes for her Kentucky readers first, and the rest of the world second. It was such a genuine and lovely moment.
She encouraged everyone to follow her on Facebook, where she personally answers questions and shares extra details about her books and research. (I’m not on Facebook, but if you are, I highly recommend it!)
It was a pleasure to get my book signed and to leave with a bookmark and sticker celebrating the new release. I loved the first book in the series and can’t wait to dive into the second so I can finally read The Mountains We Call Home.
