Old Fort Harrod in Harrodsburg, Ky

A trip to Harrodsburg, Kentucky, in search of materials for our upcoming landscaping improvements resulted in a spontaneous stop at Old Fort Harrod State Park. The Fort is accessible for a minimal fee and allows access to replica buildings, museums, and a gift shop. The Pioneer Cemetery, which is the oldest cemetery in Kentucky, is located on the grounds. The Lincoln Marriage Temple, where Abraham Lincoln’s parents married, is on site. If you’re a history buff, this is a pretty cool place to visit.

The real reason for our visit was to see the Big Ole Tree. We haven’t been to Old Fort Harrod in many years and were curious how the tree was doing. We were happy to see this impressive tree continuing to live its glorious life!

This amazing Osage Orange tree is the largest tree of its kind in the United States. This beauty is estimated to have been planted in the late 18th century! It’s such an impressive piece of nature, I wanted to share it. 😊
