The Boyfriend (by Freida McFadden)

Freida McFadden’s psychological thriller, The Boyfriend, is a mesmerizing read that delves into the complexities of modern dating and the potential for hidden darkness. Sydney Shaw, a single woman in New York, is tired of disastrous dates and catfish profiles. After a series of unfortunate events, she meets Tom, a charming and handsome doctor who seems like the perfect match. However, as a string of brutal murders of young women rocks the city, with the killer believed to date his victims first, Sydney begins to question whether her dream man is concealing a sinister side.

Freida’s writing style keeps me on the edge of my seat, constantly challenging my assumptions and proving that my suspicions are often misplaced. She skillfully blends modern dating horror and obsession into the narrative, creating a gripping and thought-provoking story. The alternating present-day twists and unsettling glimpses into the past kept me guessing until the very end. The book’s unexpected ending left me thoroughly impressed.

One of the things I love about Freida’s audiobooks is how quickly they consume my time. They make the experience of reading feel like a breeze. I borrowed the audiobook of The Boyfriend from my local library using Hoopla. Narrators Victoria Connolly and Robb Moreira provided a fantastic listening experience, bringing the story to life and immersing me in the suspenseful atmosphere.

I’m working my way through all of Freida McFadden’s books. My previous reviews are linked below.
