Worst Case Scenario (by T.J. Newman)

About six months ago, I read T.J. Newman’s debut novel, Falling, and was so engrossed that I immediately went on to read Drowning. Now, I’ve finished Worst Case Scenario, and I must say, she’s truly a master of writing about airplane catastrophes. Her storytelling is clever, unique, and incredibly engaging.

In Worst Case Scenario, a commercial pilot suffers a fatal heart attack mid-flight, leading to a devastating crash into a nuclear power plant in the small town of Waketa, Minnesota. This incident triggers an imminent meltdown, plunging the nation into a crisis with far-reaching global consequences. Ordinary residents, first responders, and leaders must race against time to avert total catastrophe.

The novel is filled with action and tension as the structural damage to the nuclear power plant compels the town of Waketa to take immediate action. While there is undoubtedly tragedy and loss, T.J. Newman shines a light on the incredible courage of the residents as they give everything they have to prevent a nuclear meltdown. I was particularly drawn to the characters she created and their emotional journeys as they work together in the hopes of avoiding a catastrophic disaster. Prepare to be emotionally moved by the conclusion of this gripping novel. It was truly heartbreaking.

My fascination with the tragedy at Chernobyl has made me appreciate the extensive research and knowledge that Newman has incorporated into this novel. Despite the complexity of the nuclear power system, she manages to make its operations and potential dangers clear and easy to comprehend.

T.J. Newman is an incredibly talented storyteller, and her suspenseful thrillers are a must-read for me. I eagerly await the publication of her next book.

I borrowed the audiobook of Worst Case Scenario from my local library using Libby. The audio production was exceptional, and Joe Morton provided an engaging narration that brought the story to life.

I’ve been following the Poisoned Pen bookstore in Scottsdale, Arizona, and since T.J. Newman is from the Phoenix area, she had an author event there to promote her release of Worst Case Scenario. I’ve included the author event for your convenience.
