Shari Lapena in Conversation with Sarah Pearse

Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Cincinnati, Ohio and Lexington, Kentucky hosted a virtual author event with Shari Lapena in conversation with Sarah Pearse. Shari Lapena just released her latest psychological thriller, Everyone Here Is Lying. I’ve read three of Shari’s previous books and loved them all: The Couple Next Door, A Stranger in the House, and An Unwanted Guest. Psychological thrillers are typically the ones I fly through when I read them because they are SO HARD to put down.

I have yet to read Sarah Pearse’s work; however, her books, The Sanatorium and The Retreat are in my massive TBR list. Therefore, I was excited to see her interact with Shari Lapena for this author event. Joseph-Beth did a great job pairing these two thriller writers together for a conversation.

Watching this author event on Zoom made my Wednesday evening very enjoyable. Their conversation primarily focused on Shari’s new book Everyone Here Is Lying. I appreciate that talking about a psychological thriller is quite difficult as to not give away any spoilers. Both ladies did a great job enticing me to pick up the book without giving away any significant details. Sarah clearly put forth a lot of effort to prepare for this conversation and she asked Shari really good questions. Shari read a few pages from her book. The event closed with Shari and Sarah interacting with the bookstore host for questions from the viewers.

From what I gathered, Everyone Here Is Lying opens with a husband having an affair that ends abruptly and unexpectedly. He returns home expecting to find an empty house to process what just happened, but his nine-year-old daughter is home and not in school. A few hours later, the daughter, Avery, is reported missing. It seems as though many neighbors and people in the community are hiding secrets and no one can be believed. Sounds like an incredibly intriguing story!
