Catch You Later (by Jessica Strawser)

I’m a huge fan of Jessica Strawser! Her amazing books have quickly made her one of my favorite authors. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her in person several times at the Kentucky Book Festival, and she’s always so warm and friendly. It’s easy to connect with her magnetic personality. I was so excited to see Jessica at the most recent Kentucky Book Festival. I bought a signed copy of her latest book, Catch You Later, and then attended The Back Room author event where she talked about her book. It made me so curious that I’ve added it to my TBR pile right at the top!

The cover of Catch You Later is stunning! It’s one of my favorite book covers. The pages inside behold a phenomenal story about two lifelong best friends, Lark and Mikki, who work night shift at a Travel Stop along the highway. They come from unreliable families and live in a small, boring town. Their only rules are to say yes to everything and always be on the lookout for a ride out of town. One night, a stranger stops in for coffee and offers Mikki a ride to Florida. Mikki follows their rules, but then… well, you’ll have to read the book to find out what happens next!

Alternating chapters reveal the tale of Mikki’s journey when she left on that fateful, impulsive offer. Eight years later, Lark shares her story. She now has a daughter, resides with Mikki’s grandmother, is engaged to a state trooper, and still works the night shift at the Travel Stop.

This book was so hard to put down whenever I started reading, so I mostly read it when I had chunks of uninterrupted time. I really liked Lark and Mikki; they are extremely likable, admirable, and humble characters. There is such a strong relationship between these two lifelong best friends. The story is a beautiful mix of pain, hope, and suspense. I also loved the valuable life messages threaded throughout the story. I’ll never look at waffles the same way again! Ha!

I’ve read several of Jessica’s books; however, I only have a review on my blog for Almost Missed You, which is linked below. As I mentioned, I have met Jessica several times at book fairs, which you can find below.
