Courting Trouble (by Lisa Scottoline)

I became a fan of Lisa Scottoline when I attended her author event a few years ago, which you can read about on my blog here. And, by fan, I mean fan of her books, and her amazingly hilarious personality.

Courting Trouble is book number seven in Lisa Scottoline’s series, Rosato and Associates, an all woman legal firm. It’s nice that you don’t have to read these books in order to follow the plot. It suits my personality to read the books in order though. Probably something to do with being Type A personality.

In Courting Trouble, we meet lawyer, Anne Murphy, who’s fairly new to the firm. She tends to live her life pretty isolated; she hasn’t made friends with her colleagues and she’s single. Anne starts building a friendship with a woman, Willow, from the gym who agrees to cat-sit for her over the July 4th holiday. In a case of mistaken identity, Willow is murdered.

Anne thinks she knows who wanted her dead, so she confides in her colleagues to find the murderer. To pull this off, Anne needs to keep the fact that she’s still alive a secret. She’s also in the middle of trying a sexual harassment case for a law school friend. And, she starts up a romantic relationship with the opposing counsel. There’s so much going on in this story!

Lisa is a great writer and story teller. Just when I think a problem is solved, Lisa puts an unexpected spin on it and lets me know the story isn’t over yet. If I forget a minor piece of the story, she brings it back up and sees it through.
