The Nowhere Man (by Gregg Hurwitz)

The Nowhere Man is the second book in the Orphan X series by Gregg Hurwitz. After reading and loving the first book, Orphan X, I quickly bought this audiobook with my Audible membership. Evan Smoak, aka Orphan X, is performing another job by answering a person’s frantic call for help. Soon after saving that person, Evan is captured, drugged, and whisked away. He wakes up, realizing he is now someone’s prisoner, but he has no idea who has kidnapped him, what they want from him, or where he is. Evan expends all of his energy and skill in an effort to escape his confinement. Meanwhile, he receives another call for help.

This Orphan X installment is literally packed with action, suspense, and thrilling scenes that kept me on the edge of my seat. I was constantly rooting and cheering for Evan to get the upper hand on this unique, creepy group of enemies. Reading actually became exhausting at times. Haha I enjoyed the other parts of the story too, in which Evan processed his past about how he became Orphan X. I also liked that Mia, a neighbor from the first book, made a few appearances.

For anyone who wonders if you have to read these books in order, it’s just my opinion, but I think a person could read book two, without having to read the first book. I wouldn’t do that intentionally, as I prefer to read serial books in the order they are written. Hurwitz provides plenty of information about Orphan X’s background, the job he currently performs, and relevant relationships, so a new reader to the series would have no problem understanding the character and storyline. With that being said, the ending in The Nowhere Man has a huge cliffhanger. I can’t wait to read the next book, Hellbent

The Nowhere Man is narrated by one of my favorite narrators, Scott Brick. He provides an excellent listening experience!
