Travel by Bullet (by John Scalzi)

I’ve made progress on fulfilling my intention to complete John Scalzi’s series, The Dispatcher. I have a tendency to read the first book in a series or discover an author I love and have every intention of reading the next book. However, months or even years pass before I fulfill this intention. I read the first installment of The Dispatcher back in 2022 and intended to read the next installment, Murder by Other Means, soon thereafter. But time got away from me, and I didn’t read it until July 2025. Now, I’ve finally completed the final installment.

Travel by Bullet is the third installment in The Dispatcher series, and it’s just as engrossing and thrilling as the others. In this installment, when a person is murdered, they almost always come back to life. Tony Valdez, a dispatcher, works at a hospital where he dispatches patients at their families’ request, in compliance with a type of compassionate law. He’s summoned to the Emergency Room where he sees a fellow dispatcher needing his help. Tony becomes entangled in schemes involving cryptocurrency and real estate, where he encounters manipulative, secretive, and scheming people. Despite his efforts to untangle the mess, he keeps getting pulled in deeper.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with The Dispatcher series, and Travel by Bullet was a satisfying conclusion. Scalzi crafted an entertaining plot and a gratifying ending. I acquired the audiobook with my Audible membership, and Zachary Quinto narrated the series, delivering a phenomenal performance.
