John Grisham in Conversation with Sue Grafton

Joseph-Beth booksellers in Lexington, Kentucky hosted a fabulous author event with John Grisham in conversation with Sue Grafton at the Kentucky Theatre. I have been a fan of John Grisham’s novels since his first book, A Time to Kill, which was published in 1993. Having been a fan of his for this long, I was beyond thrilled for my first opportunity to see him in person. For this event, Grisham was on book tour for The Rooster Bar.

The Kentucky Theatre is a very old theatre in downtown Lexington that still shows movies. The building has tons of character and is a time capsule of years past.

I was of course familiar with Sue Grafton and her alphabet series of novels; however, I had not yet read of any of her books. I enjoyed her witty banter with John Grisham and her sarcastic humor. I learned she was originally from Louisville, Kentucky, which I thought was pretty cool. Grafton recently published her last book, Y is for Yesterday, and I recall Grisham and Grafton making jokes about the title for her final book, X is for… Sadly Grafton died shortly after this event and the alphabet now ends with Y. Joseph-Beth had signed copies of Y is for Yesterday available for sale; unfortunately I didn’t purchase a copy because I hadn’t read any of her books and my primary focus for the event was Grisham. I had no idea Grafton had been battling cancer; she looked great at the event.

Listening to Grisham talk about his latest book, The Rooster Bar, was fascinating and he was very gracious as he included Grafton and her work into the conversation. While Grisham was to be the highlight of this event, he did not make the whole night all about himself. A signed copy of the book was provided as we entered the venue. Since it was such a large crowd, there was not a signing line or opportunity to meet the authors. Below is John Grisham’s podcast for this book tour. You too can listen to this event.

Joseph-Beth also sold cool posters created and printed by Cricket Press, a local husband-wife artist team, to commemorate this author event. Each poster is signed by the artist. As a limited edition, each poster is also numbered.
