The Haunting of Gillespie House (by Darcy Coates)

Darcy Coates’s gothic horror novella, The Haunting of Gillespie House, immerses readers in the eerie ambiance of a beautiful Victorian mansion. When young house-sitter Elle Schafer accepts a job caring for the isolated Gillespie House while its owners are away, she anticipates a peaceful stay filled with dusty rooms. However, her expectations are shattered when she discovers a hidden graveyard with numerous residents who died the same year. As strange occurrences like scratching in the walls and locked rooms intensify, Elle delves into the dark history of the mansion, uncovering a sinister past involving the tyrannical original owner, Jonathan Gillespie, and his lingering malevolent influence.

The novella started out as a typical housesitter experiencing the haunts of an old mansion. However, as the story progresses, it delves into the rich history of the mansion and the people who lived there before. The narrative explores the tragedies of the decades past and more recent events, painting a vivid picture of the mansion’s haunted past. The novella concludes with an unexpected and delightful treat. Darcy Coates never fails to deliver an atmospheric historic mansion haunting, and The Haunting of Gillespie House is no exception.

I borrowed the ebook of The Haunting of Gillespie House from Amazon Prime Reading a few years ago. I’m incredibly grateful that the books I check out remain in my library until I’m ready to return them.

You’re welcome to check out my review for another novel by Darcy Coates, which is linked below.
