Spare (Prince Harry)

I’ve never been a follower of the Royal family; however, I grew up loving Princess Diana and will always remember her kindness, beauty, and compassionate nature. Prince Harry is so much like his mother, being a servant and standing up for what’s right, that I was drawn to read his memoir, Spare. Several years ago, I watched the interview Harry and Meghan did with Oprah Winfrey and was impressed by their independence and strength. So, when this book came out, I was eager to learn more about his life experiences. Prince Harry’s story did not disappoint.

In his memoir, Prince Harry offers a candid and first-person account of his life. He focuses on his role as the “spare” to the “heir” (Prince William), his grief after his mother’s death, his struggles with mental health (PTSD and panic attacks), his military service, and his intense conflicts with the media. These conflicts culminated in his decision to step back from royal duties with his wife, Meghan Markle. The book delves into the toxic relationship between the family and the press, the pressures of royal life, and personal conflicts within the family, all from Harry’s perspective.

Wow! This memoir is excellent. It’s moving and emotional. The book essentially addresses his father and brother, who claim to not understand why he and his family left Britain. It begins with the “disappearance” of his mother, and it’s heartbreaking to hear his perspective. It’s also a tragedy that has naturally continued to impact his life. Harry shared in depth about his time in the military. I love his appreciation for meditation, nature, and animals. He was transparent about his transformative intimate relationships, including meeting, dating, and marrying Meghan. Throughout the book, he described significant events within the Royal family.

I wish Prince Harry, Meghan, and their family peace and freedom.

I purchased the audiobook of Spare through iBooks. I absolutely loved that Prince Harry narrated the audiobook. It was flawless!
