Deepak Chopra’s Mind Body Zone: Living Outside the Box (by Deepak Chopra)

Audible brings Deepak Chopra to its members in the form of a podcast titled, Living Outside the Box: Mind Body Zone. There are 12 episodes and I like that I could listen to them in order, back to back. I love Deepak’s work, so listening to him interact with his guests was a true pleasure.

Each session had a guest unique to the topic. For instance, he interviewed Oprah Winfrey on vulnerability. Following each session, Deepak guides the listener through a meditation on the topic just discussed.

I especially learned a lot from Deepak’s conversation with Gabor Mate on Overcoming Trauma. Gabor seems to primarily work in the field of addiction; all addictive behaviors, not just drug abuse. He made a very simple, yet quite profound declaration about addictions. He talks eloquently about the correlation between trauma and addiction; that addictive behaviors are commonly a response to the pain people experience when traumatized. He suggests that healing the trauma will help resolve the addictive behaviors.

There are episodes on our interconnectedness with nature, practicing silence, creativity, and overcoming shame. I was surprised to learn about ultrarunning from Coree Woltering. I had no idea it was a thing to run 1,200 miles! His ambition to run is impressive!!

This series is well produced, interesting, informative, and thought provoking.
