The Kill Clause (by Lisa Unger)

I’m thrilled that Lisa Unger has written another holiday short story, The Kill Clause! Paige, a professional hitwoman, receives a contract to eliminate a target in a grand mansion. However, she discovers the presence of the target’s young daughter, compelling her to confront her conscience and risk everything with her clandestine organization. As she grapples with the moral implications of her job during the festive season, Paige’s internal conflict intensifies, and she faces an unexpected vulnerability introduced by the child. This quick and suspenseful read delves into her emotional turmoil and the unforeseen challenges she encounters.

I loved this story! It’s an absolute gem of a suspenseful thriller set during the Christmas season. The narrative begins with a murder-for-hire scenario and reveals the target’s identity. As the story unfolds, I was drawn into Paige’s past, learning about her early days as a professional hitwoman for a secretive company. Lisa’s exploration of Paige’s relationship with her husband adds depth to the character and enhances the overall intrigue. The conclusion is both suspenseful and tense, leaving me on the edge of my seat until the very end.

I acquired the Kindle version of The Kill Clause through the Amazon First Reads program.
